Shondolyn Young Richardson
Shondolyn Young Richardson, a Director/Camera Operator for “Listen 2 Our Teens”, lives in Columbus, MS. Shondolyn is the South Central Conference Women’s Ministries State Director for Central Alabama (Seventh-day Adventist), and she is a member of EternaLights, a Birmingham, Alabama based creative arts ministry that is comprised of members from various states. In the past, Shondolyn has also had the privilege of being a member of Sounds of Praize, Inc., a product of A. Fitzgerald Scroggins Ministries of Birmingham, Alabama. Shondolyn founded SYR Ministries in 2008 in conjunction with the release of her debut CD, “If I Would Trust God”, on which she wrote five original songs and also co-produced the project with her husband (Michael).
Since the inception of SYR Ministries, Shondolyn has had the opportunity to encourage others at women’s retreats, Women’s Ministry programs, concerts, and a variety of other church events. Over the years, she volunteered behind the scenes in various capacities at many of those events. In August of 2013, Shondolyn had the opportunity to share her ministry on television. By God’s grace, Shondolyn recorded for the “Magnify Him” television program on the Dare to Dream network.
In 1995, Shondolyn received a scholarship at Mississippi Delta Community College as a singer with the jazz band. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education on May 15, 1999 and her Master of Education degree in Reading/Literacy on August 10, 2005 from Mississippi University for Women. She also earned her National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification (Literacy: Reading-Language Arts / Early and Middle Childhood) in November 2013 and currently holds a Reading Specialist Certification, grades P-12, for the State of Alabama. Shondolyn has 18 years of teaching experience in an elementary school environment, and 5 years of experience as an Online Facilitator for Mississippi eLearning for Educators.
In December of 2011, Shondolyn served as an Online Course Reviewer for Mississippi eLearning for Educators. She also served on the Mississippi Common Core Pre-K Task Force in 2011 and the Mississippi Early Learning Guidelines Revision Task Force in 2012 and 2013. In the summer of 2012, Shondolyn was a presenter for MS Pre-K Early Learning Standards Training in Oxford, MS and Jackson, MS.
In addition to doing volunteer work for Focus on Natural Health Education Community Development Inc. (a non-profit organization located in Jackson, MS), Shondolyn has assisted with supervising and serving the annual Thanksgiving dinner for inmates at the West Point correctional facility in West Point, MS. She participates in community service projects in the Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama areas.
As Shondolyn shares her faith walk, life experiences, and love of God with others, she is delighted when those who are seeking are introduced to or reminded of the existence and ever-present power of our loving Savior, Jesus Christ! She enjoys sharing, growing, and living in Christ; because, she realizes that the eternal door has been unlocked to the brightest future of all…a beautiful, happy, and glorious ETERNAL life with God! Shondolyn is always interested in doing presentations on such topics as parental involvement, using your spiritual gifts, and growing in Christ.
Currently, Shondolyn is a 5th grade ELA teacher at West Lowndes Elementary School (Columbus, MS), and a member of Ephesus SDA Church (Birmingham, AL). She is married to Michael and is the mother of Samuel.
