Over the past few
months, the North Mississippi Prayer Summits have seemed to
pick up steam.
Sometimes it is
referred to as "The Power of Prayer" or “Look at What Prayer Can Do".
With talk of
failing banks,
job cuts,
states nearing financial collapse,
declining home equity values,
and
unforeseen job insecurity,
it would be easy to become discouraged. However, there are a growing
number of people that use these unfortunate circumstances as a reminder
of how unpredictable life can be and how much they need the Lord.
Herbert Clark, a native
of Indianola Mississippi, has been on a mission in the past couple of
years to expose as many people as possible to the benefits of
maintaining a healthy prayer life. As the
North
Mississippi Prayer Chaplain Coordinator of the SDA South Central
Conference, Clark has worked with others to arrange prayer summits all
over north Mississippi and the turnout has been much better than
expected. In fact, people drive as far as three hours away to attend
these soul searching, spirit-filled prayer services.
How long have you been the North MS Prayer Chaplain Coordinator?
I have been MS Prayer Chaplain Coordinator for two years.
Where did you get the idea of having prayer summits?
I was
led by the Holy Spirit to put more prayer back into the church and the
best way to do that was to have prayer summits. Much prayer much power!
Are they only for Adventists?
Oh, no. By
God’s grace we have had people turn out from many different faiths.
Prayer is for all who believe in prayer and what God can do through
prayer.
How important is prayer in your life?
Without prayer
in my life I would not be here. I would not be in church. See my
mother prayed for me that God would keep me and save a sinner like me.
Prayer changed my life. I always say, “Prayer changes things and things
change when you pray".
Do you think that prayer can impact other people? If so, how?
Yes. Prayer is the key to God’s grace. Prayer lifts us up to God.
Prayer gives us a closer walk with God. Prayer gives us strength.
Prayer is like a glass of water to a thirsty man. Prayer is bread to a
hungry woman. Prayer is.........
If someone out there wants to invite you to sponsor a prayer summit in
their area, what would they have to do?
